Hualapai Mountian - Mt. Tipton Overlook

  • Elevation: Starting 6,750 ft - Finish 7,800 ft. (Gain of 1,050 ft.)
  • Difficulty: Moderate (depends on fitness level)

Heading up Stockton Hill Rd towards the Dambar the road turns into Hualapai Mountain Rd at the intersection of Andy Devine.  Continue up Hualapai Mountain Rd. for about 12 miles till you reach the Hualapai Park entrance (pictured below).

The trailhead starts inside Hualapai Mountain Park near Kingman, AZ. Entry fee into the park is $5.00 per car for a day pass. Annual passes for day use are as follows: Mohave County, Laughlin & Needles Residents $40.00/annually when purchased Jan 1 - Jun 30 and $20.00/annually when purchased Jul 1 - Dec 31. Non-Residents $60.00/annually when purchased Jan 1 - Jun 30 and $30.00/annually when purchased Jul 1 - Dec 31.
The trailhead starts at the Main Trail Junction with a starting elevation 6,750 ft. and climbs to 7,800 ft. (Gain of 950 ft.) at Mount Tipton Overlook.  The first portion of this hike trail is pretty steep and it will take you a few minutes to adjust to the elevation so don't be discouraged at the start of this hike as it may seem very difficult at first. The hike will become easier once your lungs adjust to the elevation.

Mouont Topton overlook is one of the best overlooks in the Hualapai Mountains.  On a clear day you can see for miles and miles.  Markers on the trail are numbered to correspond with the map below, and can be obtained at the park entrance.

  • Picnic kits can be rented for a day. Each kit contains a volleyball net and ball, softball bats, balls and bases, a soccer ball and a set of horseshoes. (Not sure of the price)
  • There are some picnic areas by the trailhead parking at the Main Trail Junction #4
  • There are also some areas near the base of the Aspen Peak Trail and at the Boyscout Camp
  • There is also a bench at Mount Tipton Overlook

  • Dry Camping is $12 per night
  • Hualapai Mountain Park offers over 70 individual campsites located in three separately designated areas. Picnic tables and grills are available at most sites, but water is limited to only a few sites. All campsites are on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. Start at #4 Main Trail Junction 6,750 ft. inside Hualapai Mountain Park (#4 to #6 is 0.86 miles)
  2. Go to #6 Potato Patch Junction 7,000 ft. (#6 to #9 is 1.03 miles)
  3. Go to #9 Hayden Trail Junction 7,400 ft. (#9 to #11 is 0.61 miles)
  4. Mount Tipton Overlook is most of the most senic overlooks in the Hualapai Mountains.  You can see Mt. Tipton, the highest peak of the Cerbat range, to the north.  (#4 to #11 is 2.5 miles one way and 5.00 miles roundtrip)
